About The Institute of Rail Welding

The Institute of Rail Welding (IoRW) was established in 2002 by The Welding Institute and  Network Rail. Its mission is to provide a focus for individuals and companies involved in rail welding and to facilitate the adoption of best practice. In this context 'rail welding' means the technology and practice of track welding, joining and allied processes.

IoRW has become the definitive independent organisation concerned with production, maintenance and repair welding of rail.  IoRW is a corporate membership organisation. It is administered by the Professional Division of The Welding Institute on behalf of a Management Committee representing the members; a range of organisations with a business interest in rail welding.

IoRW also has the backing of the Civil Engineering Conference, an association of the principal rail welding contractors.

More than 1000 individuals from all sections of the industry participate in IoRW through corporate membership.

Please read our latest Annual Report.
