The first Annual General Meeting of the IoRW under the new Corporate Membership scheme was held on Wednesday 6 April 2005 at TWI. It was preceded by a business briefing on the use, transportation and storage of gases by Brain Dunckely, Safety, Health, Environmental & Quality Advisor at Balfour Beatty Rail Technologies. A short guidance on the transportation of gases by Brian Dunckley and Bob Sawdon will be published shortly in Welding Lines. The AGM was attended by members of the current Management Committee, which included representatives of some of the Corporate Member companies, as well as nominees of hitherto unrepresented Corporate Member companies. The proceedings were as follows: Pending some minor changes, the revised IoRW Constitution was approved and will shortly appear on the IoRW website. A financial statement was tabled which showed that, despite the recent changes in membership structure, IoRW is in a strong position. Ten Corporate Members have joined since October 2004 and several IoRW Aluminothermic Welding Training packages have been sold. Other companies have indicated their intention to join giving an excellent start to the new phase in the development of the IoRW. It is intended to initiate a promotional campaign overseas, as well as continuing the campaign to recruit UK companies. The new IoRW Management Committee was appointed, comprising one representative of all Corporate Member companies except for Network Rail which, because of the high number of welders it employs and therefore higher subscription level, has two representatives. The new Management Committee is made up as follows:
Under the revised IoRW Constitution, when a new Corporate Member joins they will have the right to nominate a representative to the Management Committee. The AGM finished on a jovial note with a buffet lunch for all those who had attended and was followed by a meeting of the newly installed Management Committee.
