The Third Annual General Meeting of the IoRW under the Corporate Membership scheme was held on Wednesday 2 May 2007 at the Riverside Centre, Derby.
The AGM was attended by members of the current Management Committee who are representatives of Corporate Member companies. The proceedings were as follows:
- The IoRW Constitution was re-approved. It will be updated every two or three years if necessary.
- The Annual Report of activities for 2006 was presented and approved. Five more companies had joined as Corporate Members in 2006. These were: Bridgen Enterprises, Grant Rail, Lincoln Electric (UK) Ltd, Metronet Rail, Tube Lines Ltd and Serco Docklands. This brought Corporate Membership to a total of 23 organisations and these included most of the 'main players' in the UK rail sector, see below.
- In June 2006 two successful business briefings were held for representatives of Corporate Members. These were on Working Hours regulations by Mr Grahame Dovey of DTI and on Noise at Work regulations by Mr Ian Few, Chief Safety Officer, TWI.
- Two Technical Seminars were held in 2006, the first in June at the Riverside Centre, Derby on inspection of rail, the second in November at TWI on special rail grades and profiles - welding problems and solutions. Although Technical Seminars are no longer free to members, these events continued to attract a high number of participants, particularly the one in Derby which was attended by 120 people.
- Four issues of Welding Lines were published and the IoRW website continued to be regularly visited. The Technical Enquiry Service was also used extensively in 2006.
- A financial statement was tabled which showed that currently IoRW is in a strong position. The statement was approved. It is intended to keep the subscription fee structure under review in future.
- The promotional campaign will be sustained to recruit 'hot prospect' companies in the UK as well as some relevant organisations overseas.
- Towards the end of 2006, a review of the IoRW member benefits and services was initiated.
