ATO first as Thameslink Programme nears completion

08 May 2018

Reports that Govia Thameslink Railway ran its first passenger services using Automatic Train Operation over ETCS Level 2 on March 17, using ATO through central London between St Pancras and Blackfriars. GTR is using Grade of Automation 2, with the driver closing the doors and initiating departure from each station. This marks a further milestone in the programme to upgrade the Thameslink north-south commuter route through London, after the launch on February 26 of passenger services through the Canal Tunnels linking St Pancras station's low-level platforms and the East Coast Main Line.
