IoRW actively encourages training and qualification as part of continuing professional development. IoRW Members provide training services and collectively inform and support the development of courses, an opportunity for the next generation of railway welders. As leaders and practitioners in this field, IoRW Members provide practical feedback to the industry as well as contributing to the development of standards and new technologies to inform training programmes.
All aluminothermic welders working on a railway infrastructure must have attended an approved training course, at an approved training centre, and hold valid Certificates of Competence.
All staff employed to work on Network Rail infrastructure, as either assistant welders or welders, must be in possession of valid Sentinel welding permits
